“Mission: An initiative by JKYog to promote development of mindful communication and servant
leadership skills among youth of the Bay Area through Toastmasters weekly meetings/yearly events
that work on technical aspects of speaking/leadership based on the Competent Communication and
Competent Leadership Manuals, through a safe environment arising from practice of KRIPALU
values and through lectures by H.H. Swami Mukundananda.”
About Us
Classes started August 3rd, 2016 with the flagship club in Sunnyvale following an 8-week
Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program offered by Distinguished Toastmasters from the Toasters R
Us club in District 101 Toastmasters district! It has been running successfully for the past 3 years,
with a class size of 30 members. In Apr 2019, a second club was started in Fremont based on popular
demand to cater to the youth there following another successful 8-week Youth Leadership Program
led by accomplished Toastmasters from Fantastic Toastmasters in District 57! This club also has 30
members attending weekly meetings

COMMUNICATION AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The Competent Communication Manual has 10 speech projects – Each project aims to work on a
different aspect of speaking and leadership such as, organizing your speech, using your voice,
gestures, body language, visual aids and so on.
Students are free to choose their topic and craft their speech using the principles highlighted in the manual projects. They practice their speech through the week with one on one coaching from their mentors and the club counselor and deliver it at the weekly meeting, where they get additional feedback from a student evaluator.
Similarly, the Competent Leadership Manual also has 10 projects – each project consists of a specific
leadership role that the student can take at a meeting – Leading the meeting as the Toastmaster,
providing feedback as an evaluator, or taking an officer role.
Communication Training

- Children are coached one on one on their prepared speeches every week by adult club

GET CERTIFIED BY TOASTMASTERS
Upon completion of the projects in the Competent Communication and Leadership
Manuals, students can apply for and receive “Competent Communicator” or
“Competent Leadership” certification from Toastmasters International!
Try out your speaking and leadership skills on the big stage! Students also benefit from participating in the Annual JKYog Bay Area Speech Contest to test their skills and get feedback from experienced speech coaches in the
Bay Area!
